Other famous Ox people are Johann Sebastian<br \/>\nBach, Napoleon Bonaparte, Charlie Chaplin, George Clooney, Walt<br \/>\nDisney, Anton Dvorak, Clark Gable, George Frideric Handel, Oscar<br \/>\nDe Le Hoya, Diana-Princess of Wales, and Van Gogh.<\/p>\n<p>People born in the Year of the Ox are \u201csupremely self-assured, and<br \/>\nas a result are noted for inspiring confidence in others. Generally<br \/>\npatient and thoughtful, they measure their words, and will speak clearly and concisely<br \/>\noften when it matters most.\u201d Does this sound familiar in our new President?<br \/>\nOn behalf of the Chinese American Council of Sacramento (CACS) Board of Directors,<br \/>\nwe send our best wish to you and your family for a happy New Year and a prosperous<br \/>\nand healthy Year of the Ox filled with fortune and good luck!<\/p>\n<p>With the support of our sponsors, our members and<br \/>\nour community, CACS enjoyed another successful<br \/>\nyear in 2008. Most notable is the completion of our first<br \/>\never recorded history and lives of the Chinese<br \/>\nimmigrants in Sacramento during the Gold Rush days<br \/>\nin our book\u2014Canton Footprint authored by Philip<br \/>\nChoy. It debuted in early 2008, and has been enjoying<br \/>\na phenomenal success in its sales. Please see article<br \/>\nin this newsletter for more detail.<\/p>\n<p>CACS continued to participate in a number of<br \/>\ncommunity events: the Chinese New Year Celebration<br \/>\nat the California State University, Sacramento, in early<br \/>\n2008; the Pacific Rim Street Festival in May; the Yee<br \/>\nFow Cultural Fair in early fall, the Locke Management<br \/>\npen House Ceremony, and the Gold Rush Days in<br \/>\nld Sacramento in the fall. We showcased our culture<br \/>\nand shared stories with those who attended the festivities,<br \/>\ncontinuing the mission and goals established by our<br \/>\nFounder, the late Mr. Frank Fat.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, two schools from a low-income district were<br \/>\nselected to receive school supplies and sporting equipment<br \/>\nthis last summer. CACS is also proud to have sponsored<br \/>\n135 families (more than double in years past) during the<br \/>\n2008 holidays by providing them with a holiday meal<br \/>\ncertificate and gifts for the children. Please read details of<br \/>\nthese two programs featured in this newsletter.<br \/>\nThe success of our programs was due largely to our<br \/>\ncommunity support, the help of many, many volunteers and<br \/>\nour hard working board members.
